Young Talent and Veterans Included in West Indies ODI Squad for Summer Tours

The West Indies have called a mainly unchanged 15-man squad for their coming One Day International (ODI) series alongside Ireland and England.

Particularly, Shimron Hetmyer, who is presently contributing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been left out of the touring party that beaten Bangladesh 3-0 in December. Wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew makes a reappearance to the squad.

Shai Hope will lead the cross, with Brandon King and Evin Lewis probable to open the batting, while Keacy Carty is possible to come in at No. 3.

Fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde have improved from injuries that shelved them during the Bangladesh series.

Temporarily, Amir Jangoo, who recorded a brilliant 79-ball century on debut in St Kitts, will be pointing for a steady advert in the playing XI.

The three-match ODI sequence against Ireland begins on May 21 at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin.

West Indies presently sit ninth in the ICC ODI positions and are pointing to secure involuntary qualification for the 2027 ICC Menโ€™s Cricket World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The team finished 2024 on a high with series triumphs over both Bangladesh and England.

“These matches form a serious module towards the 2027 World Cup and there are symbols of the team building constancy following the sequence swing against Bangladesh and the win over England late last year,” West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said.

“We suppose the circumstances to be stimulating but we are making a culture and outlook which emphasize playing the variety of cricket that is taking us closer to some of our general objectives,” he added.

As portion of physical changes, former West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul has been selected as bowling coach, replacing James Franklin. Moreover, former Ireland allrounder Kevin O’Brien will join the coaching staff for the Ireland limb of the tour.

Following the Ireland sequence, West Indies will travel to England for another three-match ODI series opening at Edgbaston on May 29, followed by a three-match T20I series. The T20I squad is yet to be announced.
