Former Cricket Star Shows Interest in Leading Pakistan Team

Former Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has stated attention in becoming the next head coach of the national menโ€™s cricket team, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lasts its search to fill the high-profile role.

Speaking to a native sports platform, the 50-year-old established his intention to relate for the position.

โ€œIโ€™m certainly going to apply for the Pakistan team head coach role,โ€ Azhar stated.

Presently serving as an associate coach, Azhar has previously held the role of bowling coach and remainders a familiar figure in Pakistan’s coaching system.

His announcement comes at a vital time, with the PCB looking to finalize its coaching staff fast of a packed international schedule, counting preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

In the meantime, the cricket board is aggressively engaged in discussions regarding the new head coach selection. A final decision is estimated after the May 4 application deadline.

Among the leaders is Mike Hesson, former New Zealand coach and existing head coach of Islamabad United.

His name has been under serious thought during ongoing debates, and insiders propose he is a strong applicant for the role.

Hesson, who coached New Zealand from 2012 to 2018, has also made a solid status in franchise cricket, including roles in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

If chosen, he would be tasked with leading Pakistanโ€™s white-ball groups, starting with the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh from May 25.

The T20I series will be played at two sites โ€” Faisalabad and Lahore โ€” from 25 May to 3 June.
